An opportunity to watch Ava Duvernay’s documentary “13th” and join in a group discussion led by some great panelists.

“13th” is a film describing in detail how the 13th amendment allowed for the transformation of slavery into a system of over-incarceration and an economy fueled by prison labor. Panelists will be announced shortly.
Childcare and snacks will be provided, and the building is accessible. The event is free.

Molly Murphy is a Pediatric Primary Care Social Worker working with complex medical and/or mental health issues at Kaiser Permanente. She has worked in the field of Social Justice for over 12 years. Working with various populations in community, inpatient, residential, and medical settings. Working with children and families with severe and persistent mental illness, advocating for human rights, working to end homelessness, working with commercially sexually exploited youth, and youth in the criminal justice system. Coming from a criminal justice background, Molly is passionate about ending mass incarceration, making drug addiction a medical model, and finding a more human and ethical solution to helping our mental health population that does not involve prison or homelessness.
Ahjamu Umi has been an organizer with The All African People’s Revolutionary Party since 1984. He’s done organizing work for party on three continents and in the Caribbean. Ahjamu is the Co founder of School of African Roots in Portland, holds a Masters in Economics and is author of multiple books, including The Courage Equation, which is recommended reading for ForWARD Members.
